IWLCA Champions Cup Draws Nearly 3,800 Student-Athletes to Maryland SoccerPlex
NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. – The IWLCA Champions Cup once again proved to be a premier destination for collegiate recruiting as the IWLCA Summer Series continued June 20-21 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland.
The event brought together some of the nation's top club programs and prospective student-athletes, providing collegiate coaches with an opportunity to evaluate the next generation of women's lacrosse talent. More than 270 IWLCA member coaches lined the sidelines throughout the weekend, scouting athletes from across the United States and Canada.
The tournament featured 210 teams competing in 422 games across 24 fields, while 72 officials helped facilitate the action. In total, 3,780 prospective student-athletes representing 31 states and Canada participated in the event.
Champions Cup also welcomed 12 tournament sponsors, including new partner YETI, and featured a vibrant Vendor Village with more than 10 vendors serving athletes, families, and coaches throughout the weekend.
"The IWLCA Champions Cup was another tremendous stop in what has already been an exciting IWLCA Summer Series," said Caitlin Schmelz, Elite Tournament Vice President of Lacrosse. "With beautiful weather at the Maryland SoccerPlex, it was amazing to see so many talented teams competing at a high level and college coaches filling the sidelines. The energy, competition, and visibility throughout the series have been outstanding, and we're looking forward to carrying that momentum into the remaining events this summer."
The IWLCA Summer Series continues this weekend with the New England Cup in Amherst, Massachusetts, as coaches continue their search for future collegiate standouts.
