Are You a Current or Former Lacrosse Player or Coach? Step Into Officiating with the College Player Officials Academy (CPOA)!


The College Player Officials Academy (CPOA) is a collaborative initiative between the IWLCA and USA Lacrosse designed to recruit and train the next generation of girls’ lacrosse officials. Whether you’re a current player or a former coach, CPOA offers an accessible, supportive pathway to begin officiating—equipping you with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to get on the field fast. Thanks to the generous support of the IWLCA and USA Lacrosse, this program is offered at a significantly reduced cost. Your only upfront investment is a current USA Lacrosse membership and a $25 registration fee.

What You’ll Get:

  • Classroom training (virtual)
  • On-field officiating experience
  • Official uniform top Whistle, flag, and penalty cards
  • Ongoing mentorship and support
  • Opportunity to get paid immediately after completing training

Typical CPOA Training Schedule:

  • Thursday or Friday: Virtual classroom session
  • Saturday: On-field training (8:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
  • Sunday (Optional): Officiate live games and start earning

This training meets both the classroom and field requirements for USA Lacrosse girls’ lacrosse officials’ certification. Participants must hold a current USA Lacrosse membership and complete the USA Lacrosse Girls' Online Rules Course and Annual Rules Test.

Trina Mangano Scholarship

Trina Mangano Officials Scholarship Program

Trina Mangano was a nationally and internationally rated official, who served USA Lacrosse, the IWLCA and the game of women's selflessly for decades. She was instrumental in supporting the growth of the sport through her work training and mentoring officials. In 2021, Trina passed away at the age of 55 after fighting a courageous battle with with cancer. In honor of Trina’s commitment to developing women’s lacrosse officials, the IWLCA created the Trina Mangano Scholarship to help the next generation of officials in her honor.

Each year, the IWLCA will award five (5) scholarships valued at $700 each to cover the cost of the training, rating, membership dues, and outfitting new officials who have fully completed the College Player Officials Academy program and received their USA Lacrosse certification. Selections will be made in August following the completion of the previous summer's CPOA program from the nominations received.
